Do you "Trust Chafee"? I don't
Lincoln Chafee is looking forward to becoming Rhode Island's next Governor so he can increase our taxes. Since he's so anxious to impose taxes on Rhode Islanders, you would think he would be fine with paying them as well. It turns out that isn't the case.
Lincoln Chafee owns 3 houses , which are located in Exeter, Providence, and Warwick. He owns 11 cars, which are all registered at the Exeter address, he receives a homestead exemption on his Providence home and claims to live there, and he is registered to vote in Warwick. If Lincoln Chafee really lived in Providence, wouldn't he keep at least one or two of his cars at that home? Of course, Exeter's tax rate is substantially lower than Providence's rate, so he's saving a bundle. Also, by claiming the homestead exemption in Providence, he's saving quite a bit more.
There's also one other thing. If Chafee signed a legal document stating that he lives in Providence, then why does he vote in Warwick? If he votes in Warwick because he really lives there, then why is he claiming a homestead exemption in Providence, and why are all of his cars kept in Exeter? To me, it looks like Lincoln Chafee is dodging taxes.
I haven't heard Chafee respond to these allegations, but if the past is any indication, he would probably feign ignorance and tell us he doesn't handle the family finances. If I remember correctly, he also had difficulty keeping an eye on his federal campaign account and had to pay back taxes. I know a lot of people "Trust Chafee", but I certainly don't.
